2011 Seminar Series for Parents

Pittsford Crew announces a series of seminars for Parents designed to familiarize our athletes’ families with various aspects of the sport and our club. If you’ve ever wondered what `split’ really means, what a good pre-work out snack might be, why your kid is stoked about being stroke, what’s under the hood of those boats and what makes a tank tick, here’s your path to enlightenment! All seminars are completely free of charge to Pittsford Crew parents, but space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot. Contact Andy Thomas athomas@pittsfordcrew.org to reserve your spot!
College Recruitment - Thursday, October 13th, 7:30 pm - Spiegel Community Center, Rm. 201
In addition to being a fun, healthful, life long activity; being a rower or coxswain can help student athletes gain access to and attention from institutions of higher education. This is always an exciting time but finding the right school AND the right rowing program can be a complicated process with many rules and regulations depending on the level of the program. This process can be frustrating and fraught with uncertainty. Martha Bush and Catherine Thomas have graciously volunteered to spend some time talking with you about the ins and outs of college recruitment from the parents perspective. Get to know the Pittsford Indoor Rowing Center, one of the foremost facilities of its’ kind. Capable of accommodating 32 rowers simultaneously this technology allows Pittsford rowers to work on stroke technique year round. Learn about the history of the facility and what makes it so unique. Get a behind the scenes view, led by John Bowen, PIRC President. And then take a seat at a rowing station and try your hand at rowing in the tanks. Coaching staff will be on hand!
