Upcoming Regatta Information

NYS Championships, Fish Creek (Saratoga), NY

When: Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11, 2008

Where: Saratoga Springs, NY

Transportation: The motor coach will be provided.  When bus transportation is used, it is expected that ALL athletes will ride the bus both to and from the regatta.

Chartered bus transportation is provided for this regatta. All team members are expected to ride the bus. There will be parent chaperones on each bus. Travel time is approximately 4 hrs. Directions to the race site are available at www.saratogarowing.com/directions.

Leave: Friday May 9th
Buses will leave at 4:00 pm (Be there no later than 3:45)
Coach Parvin will be driving those taking the AP exam at 5:15 pm (Be there by 5:00)

Return: Sunday May 11th at the Boathouse
(Evening arrival –check the Crew Info Line for an accurate arrival time @ 234-7463)

We will not be stopping for food on the way to Saratoga, so eat before leaving on Friday or bring food for the bus. We will make a 15 min. rest stop en route, but it WILL NOT be enough time to buy any food/drinks.

The buses are equipped with bathrooms and video/tv monitors. Only ‘G’, ‘PG or “PG 13” movies can be viewed. Please bring movies so we have some choices.

FOOD: We will have pizza and soft drinks when we arrive at the hotel on Friday evening. The hotel provides a light buffet breakfast each morning. Food will also be provided at the regatta. Parents are asked to give a contribution in the contribution jar for food consumed by them or sibling at the regatta hospitality tent site.

Saturday Night Team Buffet: There will be a dinner on Saturday night for all rowers and for those individuals who have pre-paid for their meal. The buffet will consist of various kinds of pasta (both vegetarian and meat), salad, beverages and a dessert. Due to the large number of reservations, no walk-ins will be accepted at the door.

Team members are reminded that they are expected to follow the CODE OF CONDUCT RULES that each member signed at the beginning of the season. Remember, boys and girls are not allowed in each other’s hotel room under any circumstances. Anyone violating these rules will have their parents called and will not be allowed to row.

UNLESS TOLD OTHERWISE BY THE COACHES, all rowers (Varsity and Novice) will need to meet at the boathouse to unload the trailer.
 


 

Directions: 

 Race Site

 

Take I-90 East toward Albany, NY to exit 24.

Proceed through toll booths at exit 24 and follow signs for I-87 North.

Take I-87 North to Exit 14.

Take a left at the exit ramp onto route 9P East toward Saratoga Lake.

 

Parking Instruction: note that parking is on left immediately after bridge.


Note on spectator parking:  There will be parking at the race site in a field (private property) adjacent to the rowing shells for a fee (around $5/car).  In the past, there has been additional parking will be a Long Fellows Restaurant for free.  Long Fellows is on the right 1.2 miles from 87 on the same road to the race (Route 9P).

Driving Directions from Rochester

 

Take NYS Thruway (I - 90) East to Exit 24
Take I - 87 (Adirondack Northway) North to Exit 7
Follow signs for Route 9, Latham
Turn Right at the light on Route 9 North

Hotel is located 1 mile on the right.

WHAT TO BRING TO A REGATTA?

Each regatta venue may have very different weather from your backyard, therefore the best rule is to be prepared.  The following lists may be helpful:

FOR ATHLETES:

  • Uniform
  • Pittsford Crew T-shirt
  • Extra change of clothes (plastic bag to put wet clothing)
  • Appropriate shoes- some regatta sites can be wet and muddy
  • Hat, sunglasses
  • Mittens / gloves
  • Warm, Durable Socks
  • Medications
  • Water bottle
  • Athletic tape/super glue for blisters
  • Money to purchase a shirt

FOR ATHLETES and SPECTATORS:

  • Something to sit or lie on (chair or blanket)
  • Sunscreen, insect repellent
  • Hat, sunglasses
  • Windbreaker, rain gear
  • Warm clothing for layering, i.e.pants, socks, sweatshirt
  • Water bottle
  • Binoculars
  • Book, or other diversion (lots of waiting to be done!)
  • Camera for taking pictures of your favorite team members!  Don't forget to share!
  • Fishing tackle (some places have good fishing while you wait)
  • Money for the food tent
