Coaching Coordinator
Andrew brings a over a decade of combined
rowing and coaching experience to Pittsford Crew and is currently a Ph.
D. student at the Warner School of Education and Human Development at
the University of Rochester. Andrew grew up in the Rochester area where
he rowed for Brighton Rowing Club for four years. Moving to Pittsburgh
in 2002, he rowed or Duquesne University where he earned a B.A. in
History and a B.S. in Secondary Education. In 2007 Andrew moved back to
Rochester to begin a career in education and to pursue advanced
degrees. Andrew currently lives in the South Wedge neighborhood of the
City of Rochester with his fiancé, Rachel and their dog, Simone. |

Varsity Girls
Coach
Sue is a non-practicing Registered Nurse who
joined the Board in 2005. A parent of two, she became interested in the
sport of rowing when her son Jeff started with Pittsford Crew. She has
rowed competitively as a Master rower, and recently became involved with
coaching, serving as a volunteer assistant coach with Pittsford Crew for
the past two years. Sue completed her Level I Coaching Certification in
2006. She currently serves on the Health & Safety, Personnel
and the Facilities & Equipment Committees. Sue’s past volunteer
commitments include chairing Cultural Arts at both the elementary and
high school levels, coaching softball and soccer, and teaching Sunday
school at Christ Clarion Presbyterian Church. |

Varsity Girls Assistant Coach
A Pittsford Native, Jon is a 2006 McQuaid Jesuit graduate
and was a member of their founding crew team in 2003. After high school
he attended Ithaca College and continued his rowing career over the next
four years. His highlights include a State Championship in 2008 and
making the ECAC National Invitational Regatta’s grand finals in 2007 and
2009 (with both cancelled due to weather). After completing his
undergrad in 2010 with a B.A in Sport Studies, he returned to Ithaca as
a graduate assistant with the Men’s crew team and helped lead Ithaca’s
freshman 8 to a bronze medal at the ECAC National Invitational Regatta.
He also has helped with McQuaid’s Learn to Row and summer programs. Jon
is currently interning for the Rochester Amerks which will allow him to
fulfill all of his requirements necessary for his Masters Degree in
Sports Management. Aside from crew he has worked as a counselor at the
Rochester Amerks Summer Hockey Camp and Cornell’s Sports School and
interned with the Rochester Raiders indoor football team |

Varsity Boys Coach
Tom Webb brings ten years of competitive
rowing and coaching experience to Pittsford Crew. Webb started his
career in the sport at Brighton Rowing Club, 1999. In 2001, he attended
the Jr. National Team selection camp and placed 6th in the Jr. National
Team Selection Regatta. Webb continued rowing at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison where he placed in the Grand Final of the Men’s
Freshman Eight and Men’s Varsity Pair at the IRA, the Division I
National Championship Regatta. Coach Webb comes to Pittsford Crew with
over two years of coaching experience. He has worked at all levels,
including: Novice Coach at Brighton Rowing Club in the '07-'08 season;
Co-Head Coach of Skidmore Community Rowing, a nationally recognized
master's program in Saratoga Springs, in the '08 season; and acting
men's coach at Skidmore College in the '08-'09 season. |

Varsity Boys Assistant Coach
Kristen is a 2006 Mendon High
School graduate and Pittsford crew alum. After graduating high school,
she attended SUNY Geneseo where she continued rowing for their club
team. Finishing her undergrad in 2010 with teaching certifications in
elementary and special education, she continued her education by earning
her masters at the University of Rochester. Kristen was also able to
return to coach several summers of Learn-to-Row, Advanced Learn-to-Row,
and intramural programs at Pittsford Crew. Having completed her
education, Kristen now plans on subbing in local school districts while
coaching the varsity boy’s team. The demanding and rewarding sport of
crew has encouraged her to continue a very active lifestyle in which she
runs and exercises daily. She is excited to bring her 8 years of rowing
experiences and coaching skills to the Pittsford Crew. |

Novice Boys Assistant Coach
Andrea Smith is a graduate of
Gates Chili High school where she was the captain of her varsity swim
team. She has long worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor. After
high school she attended Rochester Institute of Technology where she
joined the RIT crew team. Her junior year she traveled with RIT crew to
England to row a women’s master four in the Women’s Henley. While
attending school she also worked for RIT Sports Medicine. She graduated
in 2009 with her degree in Nutrition Management. She works as a
dietitian at a nursing and rehab facility and also teaches indoor
cycling classes at local gyms. |

Novice Boys Assistant Coach
Jonathan Gering is a graduate of
East Rochester High School class of 2004 and he began his rowing career
at Philadelphia University. On the men’s rowing team at PhilaU he rowed
his novice season and went on to cox the men’s heavyweight varsity 4 for
the remainder of his college career. The 2008 season highlighted his
career with top three finishes in the grand finals in four of six
sprints that season culminating with a top 10 seed and a semi-final
appearance in the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia. Jonathan
earned a B.S. in General Engineering with a minor track in Architectural
Engineering from Philadelphia University in 2008. Jonathan also began
coxing for Genesee Rowing Club in Rochester this fall closing the season
with a respectable finish in the Head of the Charles Regatta in the
Men’s Master’s 8 category. The spring ’11 season will wrap up his second
year as assistant coach with the novice boys. When he is off the water
Jonathan works as a project manager with Ajay Glass Co., an exterior
architectural cladding contractor. |

President
Ken joined the
board of Pittsford Crew in 2009, and serves in the Health and Safety
Committee. He and his wife (Carol) moved to Rochester in 1999
after several years in Washington, DC. He is a neurologist who
specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and sleep
disorders, and has served on the board of the Epilepsy Foundation of
Rochester, Syracuse and Binghamton since 2004. Until the summer
2008 his only experience with a skull was in surgery. Now his
older two kids row for Pittsford crew, and family life increasingly
includes time at the boathouse. When the snow falls and the canal
is frozen, you can find them on the slopes |

Betsy has been with the Pittsford Crew Board
since 2006. She has served as Fundraising Committee Chair and as
President of the Board of Directors. Parent of Pittsford Crew alumnus
Sam, who currently rows for UB, Varsity rower Maddie, and son James (who
'kind of' looks forward to rowing when he's old enough). She is an avid
rower as well, having taken the adult Learn to Row through Fairport
Crew, rowing with “Adventure Out!” and in the competitive Masters
program through Genesee Waterways. Her previous volunteer experience has
been with the Junior League of Rochester. Betsy also serves on the Board
of the Pittsford Indoor Rowing Center. |

Suanne has been a pediatric nurse
practitioner at Strong and professor of nursing and pediatrics at the U
of R for nearly 30 years, but now spends most of her time volunteering
for the Pittsford School District, Boy Scouts, and Pittsford Crew. She
became interested in rowing when her older son David joined Pittsford
Crew in 2001 and began to serve on the Board of Directors in 2004. While
David went on to row for three years at Boston College, her younger son
Jared joined Pittsford Crew in 2007 and is now a senior on
the Varsity Boy’s team. During the past 8 years she has worked on the
Health and Safety Committee, coordinated Pasta Psych Parties, handled
registration for Learn to Row, chaperoned overnight regattas, and served
as Vice President for two years. She rows in Adventure Out’s and
Fairport Crew’s Women’s Recreational rowing programs and is certified by
U.S. Rowing as a Level 1 Coach. She and her husband Wade also enjoy
hiking the Adirondack High Peaks, kayaking, and skiing with their two
sons. |

Larry is a computer systems architect with Sirius Computer Solutions and the father of Pittsford
Crew alumni Brandon Cooper. He also serves as the Pittsford Crew
webmaster and helps to coordinate the launch drivers and
marshals for the Pittsford regattas. Being a Pittsford resident
since childhood, Larry has served in many volunteer capacities throughout
the community, including the schools, his church, and the Pittsford
Volunteer Fire
Department with over 35 years of service as a firefighter and 20 years
as Fire Commissioner. |

Catherine is a non-practicing domestic
engineer who instead fills her days with volunteer activities and the
occasional paid marketing endeavor. She is the team Parent Coordinator, manages the team uniform and
apparel purchases (with lots of help) and is chair of the Communications
Committee. In addition she also serves on the Development and Facilities
committees. Catherine and her husband James have two children, Claire who is a
junior and
coxswain for the Varsity boys team, and Stephen who is a Pittsford Crew
alumni. |

Phil is an ophthalmologist and father of 4 children, of which
daughter Hope is on the Varsity team and son Charlie is a Pittsford Crew
alumni. When not working, you can usually
find him and his wife Lucy cheering for their kids' teams at sporting
events throughout the Northeast.
